Lymphatic Drainage Massage During Pregnancy in Ridgewood, NJ: Gentle Relief for Pregnancy Swelling

It’s okay (and super common!) to feel “over it.”

Over feeling swollen, sluggish, and heavy on top of everything else your body is carrying. In the second and third trimester, your blood volume is at an all time high, and your lymphatic system naturally struggles a bit to keep up. All that extra fluid then pools in your hands, arms, legs, feet, and face. What you need isn’t anything intense. But rather something gentle enough to feel safe, and effective enough to actually make a difference.

That's exactly the kind of relief our prenatal lymphatic drainage session at Perfectly Kneaded is designed to provide.

What is a lymphatic drainage massage?

It’s a gentle massage that helps get the fluid (lymph) in your body moving in the right direction, through your lymphatic vessels and into your lymph nodes, so it can filter, move blood back into circulation, and keep your immune system healthy. Moving this fluid away from the swollen areas manually (because our lymph doesn’t have a pump like the heart) can reduce swelling and give you some much needed relief. And with the immune system boost that naturally happens, it offers some reprieve from the headaches and that sluggish feeling, too.

What a session with us is like

Because fluid retention affects every pregnancy differently, our prenatal lymphatic drainage session at Perfectly Kneaded is not a one-size-fits-all treatment. It's a fully customized session built around your specific symptoms that day.

Before we begin, you'll talk with our certified lymphatic therapist, Anna, about where you're feeling it most. From there, you'll choose the focal area that makes the most sense for you, whether that's your lower body to relieve heavy legs and swollen ankles, your hands and wrists if those have been bothering you, or your face, neck, and chest if sinus pressure and facial puffiness have been your main complaint. Not sure yet? That's fine too! You can decide at the time of your appointment once you've had a chance to check in with how you're feeling that day. During your session, you’ll stay supported and comfortable with our bolsters and cushions (we have many different shapes and sizes!) so you can fully relax.

What you can expect to feel afterward

Most clients say they feel lighter and less puffy following their session. Beyond the physical relief, the slow, rhythmic nature of lymphatic drainage is deeply calming, the American Massage Therapy Association recognizes massage therapy as beneficial for stress reduction and overall wellness, and that absolutely extends to prenatal care. You can expect to feel more comfortable in your body than you have in weeks.

A note on safety: prenatal lymphatic drainage is generally considered safe during the second and third trimesters when performed by a certified therapist. As with any therapy during pregnancy, we always recommend checking with your OB or midwife before booking if you have any specific concerns or a high-risk pregnancy.

Pregnancy is extraordinary, and it's also hard on your body in ways nobody prepares you for. You don't have to just push through the discomfort and wait it out. There are gentle, safe options that can genuinely help. To learn more about this service and book a session, click here.
