You did it! You finally found a time to squeeze in that relaxation you have so been wanting and, shall we say, kneading. Now, all you have to do is show up!
When the moment finally comes, you find yourself rushing to your appointment – even though you thought you left early enough. You tell yourself it’s okay, you have five minutes to get there. You will walk in the door right on time and be ready to relax!
You are not alone in thinking this way. Many of us are constantly on the go, and taking time to stop and breathe, even for a moment (let alone an hour or so), seems daunting. But the truth is, to get the most out of your self-care session you need to carve out more than just that one-hour appointment.
We have outlined some tips to help you better plan and receive the best possible service. And although it may feel like an impossibility, your mind and body will ultimately thank you!
1. Arrive Early
Give yourself just 10 minutes. That’s all you will need to come in, get settled, receive our wellness check in, use the facilities, and have a thorough pre-session consultation with your practitioner. The bonus? You will feel relaxed and more present as you prepare your mind and body to receive the care you want.
2. Know Your Goal(s)
What areas would you like to focus on during your session? Is there a spot that is especially bothersome or more sensitive? Taking time before you arrive to tap into how your mind and body want to feel during and after your service – and communicating that awareness to your practitioner – will help ensure that you get the most out of your visit.
3. Ask About Add-Ons
Including an enhancement with your session helps to maximize your self-care time by giving a big boost to the benefits you are receiving. For example, adding hot stones to your massage will deepen your relaxation while helping to further release those tight muscles.
4. Really Relax
This may seem like a no-brainer, but some clients find it more difficult than others to relax as soon as they get on the table. Try this: lay down, close your eyes, take a few big, deep breaths, and let yourself melt onto the table. By practicing mindfulness and feeling present, you will find it much easier to unwind and let go.
5. Ask for Recommendations
So! You’ve had a wonderfully therapeutic and relaxing session, and now it’s time to pay and go, right? Well, not so fast! To get the most out of your service, ask your practitioner how you can maximize the benefits from your session. Taking a soothing Epsom salt bath, foam rolling, or using a heating pad may help prolong the effects of your treatment. It’s also a good idea to ask for a recommendation about when to make your next appointment.
Just scheduling your self-care service can feel like a huge accomplishment – but following any or all of these suggestions will help you optimize the “gift” you’re giving yourself. We promise that if you allow extra time to relax before and after your session, know your goals ahead of time, include add-ons, and ask your practitioner about post-session care, you will leave feeling even more rejuvenated, recharged – and ready to conquer the world!
