So, when IS the best time to get a massage?
At PK, we feel it’s always a good time for some pain relief and relaxation! But there are definitely certain times during our days and periods of our lives that massage proves to be particularly beneficial to the body – and to the mind.
Here are just a few:
AFTER SHOVELING SNOW
After shoveling snow, our bodies are often tight and we’ve used some muscles that we aren’t used to working. It’s cold out, so our muscles are even more locked up and constricted– which makes this a perfect time to get a massage. It will help to deeply relax those muscles, give you a warm and peaceful space to rest for a while, and help you get a good night’s sleep so you’re ready to tackle the next day – with less pain.
WHEN YOU’RE PREGNANT
Because massage therapy stimulates soft tissues and helps to disperse fluid, it can be incredibly beneficial for pregnant women. Reducing stress and muscle tension and moving the lymph system are all important during pregnancy, and will help you have a more comfortable journey overall. It’s also a great way to make sure your circulation is healthy and that you are able to sleep well at night.
As always, consult your physician first to make sure it’s safe for you to receive massage therapy, and communicate any specific needs with your therapists along the way.
AFTER SURGERY OR INJURY
Post injury or surgery, the body can be in a lot of pain. Oftentimes, the muscles are tight, the circulatory system isn’t working as well, and our bodies are just plain tired. Massage can be a powerful tool on your healing journey, helping to move the lymph system, relax tight muscles, and increase your range of motion.
TO START OR TO END YOUR DAY
The beginning and the end of your day are definitely the sweetest times to get a massage.
First thing in the morning, before you really dive into your day, your mind isn’t as cloudy and your body is still a little tight from sleep. A massage will set you up for a less stressed day with a more relaxed body. In the evenings, once you’ve made it through your day, the body just wants to relax. Getting your massage then will allow you to go home and enjoy a night of relaxation and bliss, as well as ensuring a good night’s sleep.
That said, everyone is different! Depending on your lifestyle and availability, one time of day may be better than another. So, listen to your body and do what’s best for you.
